If you play Tetris Effect you’ll notice that when moving your tetraminos, a little sound plays to the beat. This is a lot of fun if you play the game to the beat of the music, but if you want to play Tetris as fast as possible the sound cue will slow you down or mess up your accuracy. There’s a solution to this, and it’s called turning the volume off on the game—but then, you don’t get to enjoy the reason you just spent $40 on a Tetris game, and you’re just playing Tetris with a controller which is objectively worse than mouse and keyboard for pin point accuracy.
The other issue is that when you level up to the next stage, the beat (or time signature, if we want to get musical) does not consistently transition into the next time signature, it’s very abrupt and jarring and often happens out of sync. For a game that is trying to immerse you in its music and visuals, it shouldn’t be that hard to program loading times between levels to finish a time signature accurately before starting the next one.
