I am old and jaded and find things like car payments and health insurance premiums scarier than most horror games nowadays. Despite this, Layers of Fear did a fantastic job of genuinely creeping me out. It has 1 or 2 jump scares you can see coming from a mile away but honestly the main attraction here is the fantastic attention to atmosphere, which is arguably the most important aspect of a truly scary horror game.
