The map only covers Europe, the Levant and Mesopotamia, and North Africa and the number of factions is dependent on the era of Roman history which you are playing. And instead of being able to play from AUC, you're earliest starting point is around the Pyrrhic War to the formation of the Empire, not exactly the entire history of the Roman Empire but it's still plenty of time for a hell of a lot of game play.
