I've played a lot of the last decade's batch of new retro point-and-click style adventure games and most of them suffer from the same set of flaws- lousy pixel hunting, weak narrative, lack of innovative gameplay, etc.
Don't Escape 4 actually adds something new to the genre. The ability to achieve perfect and less than perfect solutions to each night, as well as the alternate scenarios add substantial replay value to the game. There's very little obnoxious pixel hunting and none of the required solutions rely on obtuse item combos. The game's use of inventory and time management are both effective at creating a sense of urgency without frustrating the player.
